The World of Suzy Homemaker's magical makeover.

Well hello you. It’s been a while! OK, maybe not that long, but a month away from the blog does seem an inordinately long time. So long, in fact, everything’s changed! The blog’s had a magical makeover, but more on that later.

So how have you been? Things here have been both busy and relaxing. Very busy in my head as always, but mainly relaxing, where my view for the last few weeks has consisted of a little bit of this…

A lot of this…

All the best people are born in May.

Suffice to say, I’ve had a bloody good time! And now, I’m ready to crack on. I feel rested, refreshed and most importantly, enthused.

Waking up in the morning and feeling inspired to show up for this thing called life forms the very basis of my Core Desired Feelings. It’s the glue that holds everything else together and my recent down time has made me realise just how very far from enthused I’ve been feeling for a pretty long time.

Even Beloved admitted that he found it hard to cope with me. And THAT, my friends, is really saying something!

I’ve alluded to my struggle with depression before and how unleashing my creativity really helps to lift my mood, but even that didn’t work this time. Nothing but a major reboot was going to cut through that darkness. It took a full 8 days on a sunbed, doing absolutely nothing but sleeping and chewing the cud with Beloved, before I finally felt like I was coming back to life.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not courting sympathy, I just cannot stress highly enough the importance of down time. Whether it’s 2 weeks in the sun, a weekend in the forest, or simply unplugging for a few hours, spending quality time doing the things you love is VITAL for our wellbeing.

Down time helps us to clearly see the options, the possibilities, our path. It sparks important Bruce Almighty moments, like acceptance of self and the realisation that it’s OK to change direction or want more for ourselves.

For me, that realisation came in finally coming to terms that I’m an eclectic old bird and it’s about damn time I gave myself permission to be different.

After all, wouldn’t life be boring if we were all the same?

I can no longer deny that my world is a mass of contradictions that may not appeal to everyone. I am curious mix of tastes, styles and interests. I make stuff, I buy stuff, I shop stuff – from high street, to high end, to charity shops – and I blend everything together with a huge helping of attitude and liberal sprinkling of magic.

Up until now, figuring out how I bring that to you has been a challenge, but as I whiled away another blissful hour in the sun, I (finally for some!) realised that The World of Suzy Homemaker isn’t about trying to appeal to everyone. It’s not about working my arse off in an attempt to attract thousands of followers. It’s about shining a light to likeminded individuals.

The lovers of home with personality.

The crafters with style and substance.

The magic makers and path walkers.

My tribe.

Visitors choose my blog for different reasons – for the home inspiration; the stylish handmade accessories and upcycles; the mantel makeovers; and of course, the seasonal celebrations, especially Halloween. Some even come here just for my irreverent ramblings.

Just as well, because this one’s turning into a corker!

If you love an eclectic mix of homemade and high street, retail and ritual, then this is the place for you.

The World of Suzy Homemaker is the blog for a reason, season, or lifetime. Some visitors only like one project and that’s OK, while others enjoy a whole category. Then there are the special few who really get me and look forward to seeing what comes next out of this curious mind.

And that, dear friend, is why I’ve made a few changes to the blog. I think it’s more, well… different. It’s definitely more me. Eclectic, practical and, I hope, stylish, I’m really pleased with it. I think it better reflects who I am and shows the personality behind the projects. There’s even a section for friends of The Witch at OneandSeventy, which means I get to talk Halloween at any time of the year!

Oh! And I’ve added a place to buy stuff. I finally succumbed to popular demand and Suzy’s Shop is now open for business. Come and take a look. I have tons of new product ideas and I’ll be adding new items as they become available. In the meantime, if there’s something specific you fancy, just let me know.

I truly hope you love the new look and that you’ll continue to follow along, but if you decide my world is no longer for you, I won’t be offended.

Well… I might, but I’ll try not to be.

As always, I’d love to know what you think. Please let me know by dropping a comment below.

I’ll be back soon with projects old and new to help you make your world magical.

A hui hou,

With love from @SuzyHomemakerUK
