The eagle-eyed among you will have spotted something distinctly Suzy-ish on this year’s autumn mantel.
Did ya see what I did there?
This gold spot vase was born a couple of years ago, after I made a pact to get more creative around OneandSeventy without spending loads of pennies.
Clearly, that does not apply to Halloween!
When autumn appears so does the vase; there’s just something about brown and gold that makes you feel all warm and cozy, don’tchya think?
I found a plain brown bud vase in a charity shop and it was perfectly fine as it was, but I fancied something a bit more interesting.
So, armed with some gold metallic acrylic paint and a toothpick, I went a little dotty!
Nothing new there, then!
With no real pattern in mind, I just dived right in.
I gave the vase a bit of a clean, squidged out a dollop of ‘Splendid Gold’ Metallic paint onto a saucer and used the toothpick to dab the paint straight onto the vase.
After an oddly therapeutic 30 minutes or so…
The finished project is for display purposes only, although I have used it quite happily as a vase. I’m just careful not to get it too wet, or rub the decoration. Acrylic paint isn’t waterproof. I certainly wouldn’t shove it in the dishwasher; just a gentle wipe over with a cloth is enough of a clean. You could seal it I suppose but for me, I didn’t see the point.
What do you think? This is such a simple upcycle, anyone can do it. I defy anyone who says they don’t have a creative bone in their body to give it a try.
Maybe you have some old treasures lying around that you could spotify!
A hui hou,
