All you need is love.
Do do do do do.
What is it about love that brings out the Singstar in us? Last week, we were blasting out Bad Manners. Today’s project, a handmade love banner, has me in mind of The Beatles.
Love, Love, Love.
This cute DIY was inspired by “Spring in Bloom” by Lia Griffith which, since saving it to my Crafts and Crafty Ideas Pinterest Board, has been re-pinned over 3,000 times.
You can see why.
Isn’t it beautiful?
In a bid to create something similar for my Valentine’s Day decorations, I made my banner by layering shapes that I cut from card using my Cricut cutting machine and then stringing them together with ribbon.
For fellow Cricut users, here are the files I used:
- Heart Border: Hearts Photo Overlay – #M6B9086 layered onto basic white squares (#M369896)
- Letters: Sliced from Love Valentine – #MFCA09
- Hearts: Basic shapes – #M369884
What do you think of my version? It’s not the same as the inspiration, but I think it’s good to change things up a bit to create something a little more personal, don’t you?
I would never have been able to cut out that intricate heart border without a cutting machine, but if you don’t own a cutting machine, there’s no reason why you can’t hand cut your own love banner with a less ornate design, or why not use shop-bought shapes and letters?
To make something similar, you could use a range of materials. How about wooden letters on card? Or vinyl letters on paper? It doesn’t have to be red either. The colour choices are endless, so you could use it for an engagement or a wedding. As Lia’s creation reminds us, love ain’t just for Valentine’s Day!
Why not give it a go? As always, I’d love to hear what you thought of this project, so drop a comment below to let me know!
