Get ready for Halloween overload… It’s The Witch at OneandSeventy’s 2020 Halloween Home Tour! As always, I’ve also recorded a video, which is available on my YouTube Channel and linked at the end of this post.
If you’ve been following along with my annual 100-day Halloween countdown on Instagram and Facebook, you’ll already have seen some of these images. You’ll also know it’s been TWO years since my last Halloween Home Tour.
Talk about withdrawal!
Last October, in a fluke of perfect timing (not!), Beloved and I moved house from a fair-sized suburban semi in Staffordshire, to a much smaller home in the Shropshire countryside. A year on and we’re loving our cosy little cottage, with its two log burners and high ceilings. But even though its bones are perfect for a haunted Halloween home (why’d you think I chose it?!) I have to admit that even I found some areas a challenge to decorate.
The other challenge, of course, was trying to navigate a global pandemic and having to change my plans halfway through decorating.
On the face of it, not having any Open House visitors because of the Covid restrictions should have meant taking it easy and spending all month pottering around doing my thing. But two unbelievable and totally unexpected opportunities came my way that piled on the pressure, meaning The School House was Halloween-ready in just 2 weeks.
Not only that, but the window displays are specifically designed to be turned to face outside in time for Halloween Night, so they can be seen by passers-by as part of our Village Halloween Trail.
There’s a method in my madness, you know!
Trying to Halloweenify three rooms in half the time was a tall order, but I’m so glad I did it. It means I’ve had the rest of October to actually enjoy Spooky Season for a change.
At least in theory.
The Jeremy Vine Show – 28 October 2020
Since the piece in The Sun broke, so has my internet! Not that I’m complaining, you understand. For in among the amazing feedback, well wishes and wonderful comments (thank you SO much!), I received an invitation to appear on Channel 5’s The Jeremy Vine Show!
I can’t even tell you how overwhelming that was!
Not to mention how bloody COOL! I mean, seeing your own Halloween photos staring back at you on morning telly is a bit surreal!
It all happened so quickly, I didn’t get much of a chance to shout it from the rooftops but as I stood there, beside my Halloween Tree waiting to speak on live TV to a million viewers, I was both bricking it AND wondering “how in the hell did that happen?!”
As you can see from my Rabbit in Headlights expression!
I was interviewed by Storm Huntley, who also loves a bit of spooky and if the “oohs” were anything to go by, the panel seemed to really like my Harry Potter Candles – still going strong after 4 years!
Mind you, legendary broadcaster Anne Diamond, who was sitting in for Jeremy, wasn’t sure she could sleep in our house. She was worried that if she heard a bump in the night, she might come face to face with Hagatha!
It’s OK, Anne… She only boils toddlers!
mwah ha ha!
So now… after all that rambling, shall we get on with the tour?
I present to you, in all its spookalicious glory, but in no particular order, The Witch at OneandSeventy’s Halloween Home 2020
I hope you enjoy it!
