Beloved and I aren’t the only ones celebrating a silver anniversary this year. On July 16th, Hocus Pocus will be 25 years old. Can you believe that?
OK, it’s not quite the 300th anniversary (325th if we’re being picky) of the Sanderson Sisters’ demise and subsequent resurrection on All Hallows Eve but if you’ve never seen the film, now is a great time to watch it. Already a fan? Here are 14 things you may not already know about Hocus Pocus.

Between you and me, despite being a cult classic that’s part of the Halloween psyche, it wasn’t until I coerced asked Beloved if we might download it that I realised I’d never actually seen the film.
Tsk. And I call myself a Halloween Queen!
What took you so long?
Sorry… I had to wait 300 years for a virgin to light a candle.

OK, it was a bit cheesy (well it WAS 1993!) and some of the Special Effects are, ahem, very special (!) but Hocus Pocus is a must-watch for every Halloween fan. Not least because it features some awesome Halloween decorating ideas.
I mean… THAT book!

As I type, I’m in the middle of a whole book-type-arrangement myself and I’ve half a mind to have a go at this one. Problem is, the Hocus Pocus book has already been done to death and done REALLY well, if this step-by-step tutorial is anything to go by.
Mind you, the book’s spooky eye does put me in mind of a little Hocus Pocus of my own. Remember this little trio?

You might also recall my Halloween roses.

And creepy eye art.

Both of which now live in OneandSeventy’s epicentre of magic all year round.
One of the other Halloween props I’m in the middle of making at the moment is a giant cauldron.

I’ll tell you what, if I can make it look anything remotely like the one in the film, I will be a very happy witch indeed!

I’m not sure if I’ll get around to them this year, but a bunch of eerie Tombstones are also on my Halloween hit list. I can just see OneandSeventy’s Trick or Treaters navigating personalised plaques as they depart the Halloween Open House.
A graveyard is hallowed ground. Witches can’t set foot here.
Oh yes they can!!
Happy 25th Anniversary Hocus Pocus. Here’s to 25 more.
A hui hou,

I LOVE Hocus Pocus… but Practical Magic wins it for me. Mainly because it stars Sandra (I want to be her friend) Bullock and Stockard (She’ll always be Rizzo) Channing x
Yep. With you here Gill. Practical Magic is my fav, too, matched only by Grease for my inner Muggle 😜
Pratical Magic is LIFE but I do love a yearly viewing of Hocus Pocus as well. Thanks for the awesome write up and fun BTS pics!
The pleasure is all mine! It’s been a year already, so I think my annual Booooooook viewing is about due 😉 Sx
Hi Sue
Love the pumpkin design it’s all about hocus pocus where can I purchase that gold glitter sticker with wording
Hi Jacqueline. I’m not sure what sticker you mean? The wording was part of the pumpkin, which was a Kirklands product from 2018. Hope that helps. Sue x
