Super simple summer mantel - | @SuzyHomemakerUK

Whoooo! It’s here! The season everyone looks forward to!

Well, according to the weathermen, anyway.

For me, summer doesn’t kick in until Litha, or The Summer Solstice, which falls on or around the 21st of June. I’ve always found that a bit odd, if I’m honest. The start of summer also being known as midsummer but hey! Who am I to argue with the ancients?

Since most of my readers are likely to be welcoming summer at the beginning of June, I’ve readied the mantel for you early to get you in the mood for warmer weather and fun in the sun.

I haven’t gone nuts, I’m far too busy working on bringing you new projects and, of course, adding lots of goodies to the shop! Instead, I’ve recycled some of the accessories from last year and the year before and paired them with a few new bits.

Like this gorgeous shell wreath from TK Maxx – an absolute steal at £5.99.

As is my way, I’ve combined handmade and High Street by getting creative with these “new” vases from B&M.

I say “new”, because although a fairly recent purchase, you will already have seen them here. All I’ve done is added a few shells for a coastal touch.

How? Why with UHU White Tack of course! It’s absolutely indispensable as a styling tool!

Far from new, this glass fish has been round the block or two. I think it may also have been in the bin once or twice. Beloved hates it, so naturally I had to use it.

And bring as much attention to it as I could by transforming it into a light!

As I sit here writing this post, he hasn’t noticed it yet. (Trust me, I’d know if he had!) But he will. And when he does, this might be the last time you ever see it so go back, look again and savour this moment!!

Elsewhere, I’ve re-used some blue bud vases that I bought from Next eons ago and a couple of cute wading birds from a local shop.

A hanging fish completes the look.

Because who doesn’t need a hanging fish?

In the meantime, enjoy the beginning of summer whenever it starts in your world. Make the most of every moment, because if the rest of this year is anything to go by, it’ll pass in a blur.

A hui hou,

With love from @SuzyHomemakerUK
